Does an indicative masterplan exist? Perhaps an ‘illustrative vision’ ?

5 May 2024, 12:32

Dear Colette and Councillor Francis, cc Helen, George, and Younis,
I am writing regarding the recent council response (attached) to Ladywood Unite, which stated:
“The Cabinet report referenced does refer to a ‘masterplan’, which on reflection was not the right language to use.”

Inaccurate language and information can mislead decision-makers and the public, potentially leading to incorrect decisions or misunderstandings about important issues.

It is important to address the inaccuracies in the cabinet report and ensure that accurate information is provided to stakeholders going forward.

I am writing to request a public correction and clarification statement to acknowledge the error and provide accurate information.

Transparency and accountability are essential in maintaining trust and integrity in the decision-making process.

We believe that there should be a draft masterplan before the developer is selected or in contract, and that this should be created with the people who live, work, and pray inside the Ladywood regeneration zone. This will ensure that the views and interests of the community are represented in the plans, in line with the principles of Powered by People.

I request a response stating the actions that you will take to address this with a timeline by close of business 24 May 2024. If I do not hear from you I will proceed through the council complaints process.

Kind regards

Laura

Dear Laura,

The council has acknowledged and apologised that there has been some inconsistencies in the language and terminology used, which on reflection was not clear. We will endeavour future messaging and reports to provide clear and precise messaging, so this is not misunderstood or misleading.

The Cabinet report and minutes are a record of decisions approved by the Cabinet.  The language and terminology used within the report did not affect the overall decision of Cabinet in the awarding the contract to St Joseph.

Kind regards

Colette

Dear Colette,

Thank you for getting back to us in a timely manner. Where exactly has the council apologised for using inconsistent and unclear language about the existence of the masterplan?

Kind regards

Laura
