Thank you to everyone who sent in the issues affecting them for our MPs to consider. The long list is below.
Acting immediately to encourage the council to co-produce a masterplan with residents before the developer agreement is signed
Acting immediately to support the council in forming a residents steering group that is diverse including in tenure type that has the power to influence decisions
Work to ensure any movers are re-housed in a single move in their area if they wish
Work to obtain a ‘like for like at no additional cost’ offer for any residents who must move so that no resident is left worse off in any way
Insist that meaningful community consultation and engagement, community facilities, social and affordable housing, and environmental concerns are addressed throughout the project
MPs to work to pass legislation in Parliament that protects other communities from what we are experiencing, addressing issues like diversity and engagement in consultation and viability loopholes in planning
Update the wording in the report to Cabinet that says an indicative masterplan exists – or publicly apologise for using unclear and inaccurate wording in this report
Publicly ask Birmingham City Council to apologise to residents for the continued disrespectful treatment we have received from the council to date.
Ask our Councillors and MP candidates to consider fully withdrawing their support for the regeneration on a morals and values basis because there is so little brownfield land inside of the regeneration zone relative to the rest of the city, and there has been a lack of meaningful community involvement since day one of the project
I would ask, why has it taken an election being called, for them to now want to support or even acknowledge the residents of Ladywood and Ladywoodunite? Andy Street only became interested when he was up for the mayoral election, what makes them different?
What are they presently doing for the residents of Ladywood regeneration zones so that we can trust that they will continue to support Ladywoodunite and the residents of Ladywood, if they are elected?
Are they willing to put in writing, before the election, their promise to support the choices wanted by the residents of Ladywood?
One of the main issues for me is the dirty streets! They are filled with rubbish and litter and look so depressing. Birmingham looks like the worst untidy and dirty Cities in Britain right now and I feel ashamed to live in it!
There is also a growing issue with graffiti all around Birmingham and it strangely looks worse along the canals and in Ladywood. These ugly tags make the area look unsafe as they can be a revealing sign of gang culture. We all understand that Birmingham City Council needs to do some savings and have actually announced that they will not prioritise cleaning up graffiti. But this is a blatant example of local authorities letting a whole area run into the ground, which will then lead in people agreeing to any type of regeneration project. If you get elected as the MP for Ladywood, how are you going to use your power to address these issues? Do graffiti and litter/fly tipping even matter to you? Do you live in Ladywood? Are you affected personally by them?
