We oppose Birmingham City Council’s plan to mass compulsory purchase and demolish thousands of Ladywood homes, giving our land over to a luxury developer. We demand to restart the process of regeneration and put residents back at the heart of decision making, empowering them with the time and resources to have a voice.
We include 100s of freehold home owners and leasehold home owners, where the government does not own our homes or our land. These are at risk of demolition. We also include council and social homes. Churches and businesses are affected, too. Churches have been told they will be replaced by secular community spaces.
We do not have support from our local councillors who support the regeneration and do not help us. We would like our local councillors to help us protect good quality and new housing, ensuring that older and poorer quality properties receive the care and attention they need.
Leader of Birmingham City Council, Councillor Cotton, has repeatedly promised residents will have a funded consultation specialist to support us. This has not occurred and we are wholly reliant on volunteers.
