   I replied to her survey with this:

   The so-called ‘Ladywood Regeneration’ proposals have NOTHING to do with helping the existing people of Ladywood and EVERYTHING to do with council powers trying to keep their jobs by filling a black hole of financing which is partly their own making. It’s a failed Birmingham City Council Labour leadership of over a decade which is failing the people of Ladywood.

   They have sent a powerful, damaging message to the people of Birmingham: your home is not safe, it is not yours- we can force you to sell it if we want, to build high-rise homes. In the future we will label these new homes ‘slums’, and so the cycle will continue… we demolish them and rebuild, just like we did with the homes we’re now earmarking for demolition.

   We don’t care about you, we care about money. We don’t care about climate change, or community… or long-term improvements, we care about short-term money. And so continues the failing council.

   And sadly, sickeningly, if this is what Labour’s ability to run a budget and lead looks like locally, so continues Labour failing to be a realistic alternative to Tory rule nationally. Birmingham City Council- please get back to your roots, with true localism.
